In the ‘Writing Home’ series, the body remains integral to language-making while using a fixed medium to counter to the work’s prior impermanence. Here, the interplay of the hand guiding nuanced fragments of glass across the page, or the marks the hand makes to find balance, are literary devices.
The space of Writing Home is familiar. Using graphite on illustration board as the primary medium draws on my daily use of writing and sketching to make sense of my thoughts. Additionally, my background in architecture, where orthographic and illusionist representation serve as dominant modalities, applies pressure to this method of marking.
The pursuit of language has been process driven, found as much in my ability to control or lose control of the glass, as in the markings. Together, I can create alternate readings or realities in the work.
